Islamabad, The Power Division of Pakistan has countered claims made in the Business Recorder regarding the exaggerated theft recovery figures, affirming the accuracy of the numbers provided by the former caretaker Minister for Power.
According to Press Information Department, the Power Division refuted the article published on April 9, 2024, by Business Recorder, which suggested inaccuracies in the reported electricity theft recovery figures. The Division confirmed that since the start of the anti-theft campaign on September 7, 2023, a total of Rs 84 billion in arrears and Rs 5.5 billion from electricity theft had been successfully recovered. These numbers align with the former minister’s statements, highlighting the effectiveness of the campaign in addressing both arrears and theft.
The Power Division emphasizes that its primary objective has been to tackle electricity theft, which was the context of the current Power Minister’s communication, focusing specifically on the theft recovery amount. The Division urges the newspaper and its reporters to seek clarification directly to avoid misinterpretation and misinformation, thereby supporting the government’s efforts in resolving energy sector challenges.
