Posters in Srinagar Highlight Human Rights Violations in Kashmir Ahead of World Human Rights Day

Srinagar, in anticipation of World Human Rights Day on December 10, posters have emerged throughout Srinagar and other areas of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, calling global attention to alleged human rights abuses by Indian forces in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, World Human Rights Day, observed annually on December 10, commemorates the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) by the United Nations General Assembly in 1948. This day is marked worldwide to advocate and promote human rights.

The posters, put up by various parties, aim to shed light on the extensive human rights violations reportedly committed by Indian troops in occupied Kashmir. They emphasize the denial of fundamental rights to the people in IIOJK, including the right to self-determination.

The content of the posters includes accusations against Indian troops for killing innocent Kashmiris, particularly the youth, in purported cordon and search operations and staged encounters. They highlight the refusal to hand over the bodies of the deceased to their families for proper burial rites. Additionally, the posters allege the arbitrary arrest of human rights activists, who are then detained in distant jails across India.

The posters call on international human rights organizations to acknowledge the situation in IIOJK and to contribute to resolving the prolonged Kashmir dispute in line with United Nations resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.
