Karachi: The logistics and port connectivity system surrounding Port Qasim is undergoing significant enhancements under the Prime Minister’s Maritime Reforms Task Force, aiming to bolster cargo movement, infrastructure, and trade activities. Key developments include the completion of the Karachi Port-Pipri Railway Link restoration project and the creation of a multimodal logistics network.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Karachi Port-Pipri Railway Link has been revived with the cooperation of the National Logistics Cell (NLC) and Pakistan Railways, which is anticipated to improve cargo transportation between ports and inland destinations. A multimodal logistics network is being developed to connect Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and the Pipri Railway Yard through barge, road, and rail links, enhancing freight movement efficiency.

As part of the National Dredging Plan, dredging at Port Qasim has been completed, with efforts to increase dredging capacity at other ports being expedited to ensure smooth maritime operations. Additionally, infrastructure development within the industrial zone of Port Qasim has been accelerated, with improved monitoring and third-party audits.

The establishment of logistics parks, warehousing facilities, and value-added services aims to modernize port operations and support industrial growth. The expansion of Port Qasim’s maritime and industrial capacity is expected to facilitate import and export activities, thereby strengthening Pakistan’s trade and logistics infrastructure.
