New York: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has commended the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for its ongoing support of Pakistan’s economic reform efforts. During a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to implementing structural measures aimed at bolstering the nation’s economy.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the IMF’s role in aiding Pakistan’s macroeconomic stabilization initiatives. He emphasized the government’s commitment to the IMF-supported reform program and highlighted progress in fiscal discipline, external buffers, and investor confidence. Measures such as the National Tariff Regime and advancements in domestic revenue mobilization and privatization were cited as key examples of Pakistan’s efforts.

Sharif also stressed the importance of safeguarding vulnerable segments of the population while maintaining the economic reform trajectory. The dialogue also covered the impending IMF program review and the ongoing cooperation to enhance Pakistan’s economic resilience.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Advisor on Privatization Muhammad Ali, and other senior officials. Following the meeting, Sharif reiterated on social media his gratitude to Georgieva for her personal contribution to strengthening the partnership between Pakistan and the IMF, noting the nation’s transition towards economic recovery despite regional and global challenges.
