Karachi: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing maritime safety and regulatory oversight, aligning with international obligations. In separate statements marking World Maritime Day, both leaders acknowledged the contributions of Pakistan’s seafarers to the national economy and international trade.

According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari highlighted the nation’s efforts to modernize maritime infrastructure, specifically citing the installation of a Vessel Traffic Management System at Port Qasim. This system is expected to bolster navigational safety and operational efficiency. President Zardari also commended maritime professionals for their service amid regional tensions, noting their dedication under challenging circumstances.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the theme of this year’s World Maritime Day, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence.” He stated that Pakistan is focused on aligning its maritime industry with international standards and implementing conventions of the International Maritime Organization. The Prime Minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to advancing maritime safety, security, and environmental sustainability to foster a modern and competitive maritime sector.
