Islamabad: On International Literacy Day, the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan extended his greetings to the nation and emphasized the importance of education in fostering national progress. The President underscored the significant role teachers, students, parents, educationists, and community workers play in supporting education across the country.
According to Press Information Department, the President highlighted the 60th anniversary of International Literacy Day, marked by the theme “Literacy for People, the Planet and Prosperity.” He noted that literacy extends beyond reading and writing, equipping individuals with the knowledge and confidence required to participate in society and contribute to the nation’s development. The President stressed that achieving universal literacy is both a development imperative and a moral obligation for Pakistan, as it reflects the nation’s future potential.
The President called for an evolution in educational approaches amid rapid technological changes, advocating for the inclusion of critical thinking, digital competencies, and practical skills. He emphasized the importance of reaching children in remote areas and those who missed formal education through non-formal education and adult literacy programs. The empowerment of girls and women through education was highlighted as a national priority, essential for societal progress.
Addressing challenges such as climate change, the President linked literacy efforts with Pakistan’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4, aiming for inclusive and equitable education for all.
