Pakistan’s Met Office Predicts Rain, Wind, and Thunderstorms Across Regions with Occasional Gaps


Islamabad, Pakistan’s Met Office has issued a weather forecast predicting rain, wind, and thunderstorms across various regions, with some areas experiencing heavy rainfall and snowfall over high mountains. The weather system is expected to begin on the night of April 24 and continue until April 29, with varying degrees of intensity and frequency.



According to National Weather Forecasting Centre – Islamabad, the westerly wave will enter western parts of the country on the night of April 24 and grip most upper regions by April 26. The detailed forecast indicates potential heavy rainfall and strong winds across Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Punjab, and parts of Sindh.



In Balochistan, rain and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls are expected from April 24 to 27, affecting several areas including Noushki, Pishin, Harnai, Zhob, Gwadar, and Quetta. Similarly, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa may experience rain, windstorms, and snow over high mountains from April 25 to 29, affecting Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad, Peshawar, and others.



Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are forecast to receive rain and thunderstorms with snow over high mountains from April 26 to 29, impacting areas such as Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, and Rawalakot. Punjab and Islamabad are expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall from April 26 to 29, with districts like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Rawalpindi on alert. Sindh may also experience dust-thunderstorms and light rain on April 25 and 26.



The Met Office has issued advisories regarding potential impacts, including flash floods in local nullahs and streams in parts of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, landslides in Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, and windstorms affecting human life, standing crops, and infrastructure.



Farmers, particularly in wheat-harvested areas, are advised to manage their crops considering the forecasted weather conditions. Tourists are also encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel, especially from April 26 to 29.
