New York: Deputy Prime Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar of Pakistan is set to represent his country at the United Nations Security Council’s Open Debate in New York today. The debate, titled “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-Centered International System,” has been organized under China’s rotating presidency of the Security Council and will be chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

According to Radio Pakistan, the open debate aims to emphasize the importance of reinforcing multilateralism and maintaining the United Nations’ central role in tackling the complex global challenges faced today. Pakistan has expressed support for this initiative, welcoming China’s efforts in convening the discussion.

In addition to participating in the debate, Deputy Prime Minister Dar will attend a meeting of the Group of Friends on Global Governance. This meeting will focus on the theme “Reforming and Improving Global Governance, Working Together to Address Global Challenges.” Dar is also expected to conduct bilateral meetings with his counterparts and engage with senior officials from the United Nations on the sidelines of the event.
