Islamabad: Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening a longstanding strategic partnership and deepening political mutual trust, as announced in a joint statement following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to China. This visit was part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

According to Radio Pakistan, Prime Minister Sharif’s four-day official visit to China was at the invitation of Chinese Premier Li Qiang. During this visit, Prime Minister Sharif met with Chinese President Xi Jinping and engaged in talks with Premier Li Qiang. The discussions led to a broad consensus on enhancing the China-Pakistan All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership and addressing international and regional issues of mutual interest.

The two countries emphasized the importance of their traditional friendship, which has endured through various geopolitical shifts over the past 75 years. Both sides agreed to enhance high-level exchanges and advance cooperation in defense, security, and economic development, particularly through the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Additionally, the two nations agreed to accelerate infrastructure projects such as the realignment of the Karakoram Highway and the development of Gwadar Port as a regional connectivity hub. They also plan to promote agricultural cooperation and expand educational and cultural exchanges.

The joint statement highlighted mutual support on key issues, with Pakistan reiterating its commitment to the one-China principle and China’s sovereignty claims, while China expressed its unwavering support for Pakistan’s efforts to maintain national security and stability.

Both countries aim to foster a closer community with a shared future and have signed several cooperation documents during Prime Minister Sharif’s visit. The Pakistani government expressed appreciation for China’s hospitality and support as the two nations commemorated their historic diplomatic relationship.
