Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif have reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), emphasizing their commitment to the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. This declaration comes as part of their messages on Youm-e-Istehsal Kashmir, a day observed to highlight the situation in the region following India’s actions in 2019.

According to Radio Pakistan, both leaders highlighted the importance of reminding the international community about the consequences of India’s unilateral actions, which they claim violate international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. They asserted that these actions have not altered the legal status of Jammu and Kashmir nor diminished the aspirations of its people. The President and Prime Minister committed to continue advocating for the resolution of the dispute at international forums, insisting that peace in South Asia hinges on addressing this issue.

In a video message, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar called upon India to halt actions undermining the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the international community, particularly the United Nations, to engage in efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute, emphasizing that sustainable peace in South Asia requires a resolution that aligns with the aspirations of the Kashmiri people and UN resolutions. Dar assured continued support for Kashmiris’ rights, underscoring Pakistan’s commitment to their cause.
