Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif have extended their congratulations to Mojtaba Khamenei upon his assumption of the role of Iran’s Supreme Leader. In separate messages, they also expressed condolences over the death of his father, the former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari highlighted the current tensions and conflicts affecting the region, expressing hope for stabilization and improved conditions for its people. Prime Minister Sharif echoed these sentiments in a letter addressed to Mojtaba Khamenei, offering condolences and prayers from the people of Pakistan to the Iranian populace and the broader Muslim community.

Prime Minister Sharif emphasized the deep sadness felt by Pakistanis at Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s passing, expressing solidarity with Iran in mourning. He also conveyed optimism that Mojtaba Khamenei’s leadership would steer Iran towards peace and prosperity.

The Prime Minister underscored the strong ties between Pakistan and Iran, rooted in shared faith, history, culture, and language. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas of mutual interest, benefiting both nations. Additionally, he prayed for the health and success of Mojtaba Khamenei and for peace and prosperity for Iran’s people.
