Islamabad: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with President of Türkiye, H.E. Recep Tayyip Erdogan, for a significant bilateral meeting aimed at enhancing strategic cooperation. The leaders discussed a broad range of issues, reinforcing their commitment to a mutually beneficial partnership.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, President Erdogan was received at the Prime Minister Office in Islamabad, following his arrival the previous night. The meeting included a Guard of Honour and a fly past by PAF fighter jets. The leaders engaged in discussions covering bilateral, regional, and global topics of interest, expressing satisfaction with the positive trajectory of Pakistan-Türkiye relations.
The visit featured the 7th Session of the Pakistan-Türkiye High Level Strategic Cooperation Council (HLSCC), co-chaired by both leaders. Progress reports from nine Joint Standing Committees were presented, with new committees on Health and IT also delivering updates. The Chief of Army Staff, General Syed Asim Munir, participated in these discussions.
Economic cooperation was a focus, with Prime Minister Sharif inviting Turkish companies to explore opportunities in Pakistan. Discussions also covered regional issues, including the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and developments in the Middle East, with both leaders expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The meeting concluded with the signing of a Joint Declaration and the exchange of 24 MoUs, Protocols, and Agreements. A main interchange in Islamabad was named in honor of President Erdogan, symbolizing the strong ties between the two nations.
