CAPE TOWN: Ms. Misbah Khar, an advisor to the Chairman of the Senate and Ambassador to the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference, led a significant bilateral parliamentary engagement with Malaysian parliamentary leaders during the 69th Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Conference in Cape Town, South Africa. The discussions aimed to foster closer ties between the legislative bodies of Pakistan and Malaysia.

According to Senate of Pakistan, the meeting was attended by the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malaysia, Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Johari bin Abdul, along with members of the Malaysian parliamentary delegation. Syed Ali Haider Gillani, MPA, and other members of the Pakistani delegation were also present. The participants exchanged views on strengthening parliamentary relations, institutional cooperation, and promoting regular interactions between the two countries’ legislatures.

Ms. Khar emphasized the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and greater engagement among Commonwealth parliaments. She briefed the leaders on the objectives and significance of the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference and its role in promoting dialogue, cooperation, and the exchange of parliamentary experiences.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss matters of mutual interest and explore avenues for enhanced parliamentary cooperation and people-to-people contacts between Pakistan and Malaysia. The engagement reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to advancing parliamentary diplomacy and fostering closer relations with international parliamentary partners through bilateral and multilateral forums.
