Islamabad: Pakistani and Chinese officials convened to explore enhanced collaboration in livestock genetics, with a particular focus on buffalo embryo exports and genetic resource development. The discussions, led by Pakistan’s Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, are expected to bolster Pakistan’s agricultural economy and open new avenues for farmers and exporters.

According to Radio Pakistan: The high-level meeting, attended by a Chinese delegation, centered on the potential for expanding bilateral cooperation in the livestock sector. The discussions highlighted the growing global interest in Pakistan’s elite buffalo genetics, particularly the Neeli Ravi breed, known for its superior milk production and strong genetic traits. The Chinese delegation expressed keen interest in Pakistan’s internationally recognized buffalo breeds and the broader possibilities for collaboration in animal genetics and embryo transfer technologies.

The meeting underscored the significant export and investment opportunities presented by the increasing global demand for elite dairy genetics. Minister Hussain emphasized the immense potential of the livestock sector for export growth and foreign exchange earnings. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernizing the sector through scientific breeding technologies and expanding export avenues for livestock products and genetic material, aiming to strengthen cooperation with China as a strategic partner in this endeavor.
