ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has issued a stern warning that any hostile actions targeting Pakistani vessels or maritime interests in the Red Sea will be considered a significant threat to national security. This declaration was made by Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi during a weekly briefing in Islamabad, where he condemned threats by the Houthis against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, Andrabi expressed grave concerns over the situation, highlighting the risks posed to regional security, freedom of navigation, and global trade. He emphasized that any attacks on Pakistani flagged vessels or commercial interests would be regarded as direct attacks on Pakistan, warranting swift retaliation in self-defense.

Addressing broader regional tensions, Andrabi reiterated Pakistan’s call for restraint among all parties involved in the Middle East and Gulf Region. He also underscored Pakistan’s commitment to diplomatic efforts, advocating for dialogue and diplomacy.

In response to inquiries about Amnesty International’s report on Pakistan’s military actions in Kabul, Andrabi dismissed the allegations, citing a lack of credible evidence. He criticized the Taliban regime for fostering an environment conducive to terrorist activities and insisted that any military strikes by Pakistan were defensive actions against terrorist threats.

Commenting on the European Union’s GSP report, Andrabi acknowledged the report’s recognition of Pakistan’s legislative progress and compliance with international conventions. He affirmed that the GSP Plus framework remains crucial to Pakistan’s economic ties with the EU, contributing to employment, economic participation of women, poverty reduction, and overall economic development.
