New York: Pakistan has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at de-escalation and dialogue in Yemen, expressing hope for a comprehensive political settlement that could bring enduring peace and stability to the region. These remarks were delivered by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, during an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council on Yemen.

According to Radio Pakistan, Ambassador Ahmad highlighted the increasingly perilous situation in Yemen, marked by a sharp escalation of hostilities across various frontlines. He expressed deep concern over ongoing Houthi attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea and assaults on civilian and economic targets in Saudi Arabia. The deteriorating humanitarian conditions were also noted as alarming, emphasizing the urgent necessity for diplomatic solutions to prevent further escalation.

Ambassador Ahmad reiterated Pakistan’s steadfast support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Saudi Arabia, asserting the country’s solidarity with Saudi leadership and its people. He affirmed Pakistan’s endorsement of Saudi Arabia’s rights, under the UN Charter and international law, to defend its territory and protect its citizens and assets from threats.
