Pakistan Urges Strengthened UN General Assembly and Resolution Implementation


New York: Pakistan has advocated for a more robust United Nations General Assembly and effective enforcement of its resolutions, emphasizing the need for strengthened institutional relationships and transparent processes. The call was made during a plenary meeting at the UN General Assembly, where Pakistan’s representative highlighted the importance of universal membership and sovereign equality within the global body.



According to Radio Pakistan, First Secretary Ansar Shah addressed the assembly, stressing the need for a dedicated mechanism to monitor the implementation of General Assembly resolutions. Shah proposed regular and detailed reporting by the Secretariat as a means to ensure accountability and effectiveness.



The Pakistani delegate also advocated for a closer relationship between the General Assembly and the Security Council. Shah suggested that more frequent and substantive reporting by the Security Council to the Assembly could enhance transparency and cooperation between the two entities.



Additionally, on the issue of selecting the Secretary-General and other executive leaders, Pakistan reiterated its commitment to principles such as transparency, inclusivity, gender parity, and equitable regional representation. Shah expressed Pakistan’s hope for a swift conclusion of the selection process for the Secretary-General to facilitate a smooth transition of leadership within the organization.
