Islamabad: World Wildlife Day serves as a poignant reminder of the interconnectedness of humanity and nature, highlighting the responsibility to protect the extraordinary wildlife that enriches both lives and ecosystems. From the snow leopards of the Himalayas to the endangered Indus River dolphins, Pakistan is home to a rich tapestry of biodiversity.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif underscored the importance of innovative financial mechanisms for the conservation of wildlife species. This year’s theme, ‘Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet,’ emphasizes the need for sustainable investments that support healthy ecosystems and human welfare.

The Prime Minister highlighted the Green Pakistan Program, which aims to empower local communities with economic opportunities that deter poaching and habitat destruction. As a signatory to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES), Pakistan seeks to strengthen legislation against illegal wildlife trade.

The Islamabad Wildlife Management Board, operating under the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination, has established the Wildlife Rescue Center. This initiative focuses on rehabilitating injured, orphaned, and abused animals, with the goal of reintroducing them into the wild or placing them in sanctuaries.

The government, in collaboration with local communities, conservationists, and international partners, continues to raise awareness about the critical importance of biodiversity. The Prime Minister called on the global community to join hands in spreading love for Pakistan’s wildlife treasures and fulfilling responsibilities as a member of the global community.
