Islamabad: A delegation from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), led by Jamie Fergusson, Global Director for Climate, met with Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change, to bolster collaborative efforts in tackling climate challenges. The meeting emphasized the need for enhanced partnerships to empower stakeholders across various sectors in Pakistan.

According to a statement by Press Information Department, the discussions focused on improving Pakistan’s capacity to respond to climate change impacts and the significance of continued global support for developing nations. Both parties underscored the importance of making climate funding more accessible to aid Pakistan, a country highly susceptible to climate-related adversities despite its minimal contribution to global emissions.

Aisha Humera Moriani, Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change, highlighted the potential of electric vehicles in reducing emissions. She proposed increased collaboration with the EV sector, particularly focusing on electric two-wheelers, to cut carbon emissions and improve urban air quality.

Jamie Fergusson praised Ms. Alam’s climate advocacy and reaffirmed IFC’s commitment to providing strategic support to enhance Pakistan’s climate resilience. The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing on the necessity of stronger cooperation to advance Pakistan’s climate goals and involve local communities in implementing tailored climate solutions.
