ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed Pakistan’s desire to enhance cooperation with the United States across various sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, IT, mines, and energy, during a meeting with a U.S. Congressional delegation in Islamabad.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Prime Minister met with Congressmen Ryan Zinke and Michael Baumgartner, marking the visit as a positive step towards strengthening Pakistan-U.S. relations. He extended his congratulations to the Congressmen and the American public on the 250th anniversary of U.S. Independence and conveyed his best wishes to President Donald Trump. Prime Minister Sharif also recalled President Trump’s role in facilitating a ceasefire between Pakistan and India, which he claimed averted a large-scale conflict.

The meeting saw both parties acknowledging the positive impact of President Trump’s relationship with Pakistani leadership on bilateral ties. The Congressmen commended the Prime Minister for Pakistan’s efforts in regional peace initiatives. Both sides agreed to increase the frequency of visits by Congressional and parliamentary delegations between the two countries.

In a subsequent reception for a delegation of U.S. corporate sector executives, Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the U.S., focusing on economic cooperation. He encouraged U.S. companies to invest in Pakistan in various sectors, highlighting the role of the Pakistani American diaspora as a crucial link between the two nations.
