Pakistan Rejects Remarks on Azad Jammu and Kashmir by British Diaspora

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has firmly dismissed remarks made by certain members of the British diaspora concerning Azad Jammu and Kashmir, labeling them as unwarranted and ill-informed.

According to Radio Pakistan, the Foreign Office issued a statement expressing concern over what it described as irresponsible comments from some individuals in the UK, urging them to avoid interference in Pakistan’s internal matters. The statement emphasized that these individuals should focus on constructive contributions in their countries of residence. Additionally, the Foreign Office addressed remarks by certain British Members of Parliament, criticizing them for a lack of understanding and historical awareness regarding the issue.

The Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan’s stance as a sovereign and democratic nation committed to non-interference in the internal affairs of other countries and expects similar respect from others. It affirmed that both the governments of Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir uphold citizens’ rights to peaceful assembly and free expression, but warned against acts of vandalism, destruction of public services, and violence.

In a concluding note, the Foreign Office urged the British Government to advise those supporting proscribed organizations to respect the democratic process, judicial rulings, and the rule of law as defined in the constitutions of Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan.
