ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has explicitly dismissed recent unilateral actions taken by India in the region of Jammu and Kashmir. These actions include efforts to rename places in the disputed territory, which Pakistan views as an attempt to legitimize India’s claim over the area.
According to Radio Pakistan, Foreign Office Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan addressed these issues during a media briefing in Islamabad. Khan emphasized that such actions by India do not change the internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. He reiterated Pakistan’s stance that the resolution of the Kashmir conflict should align with United Nations Security Council resolutions and reflect the aspirations of the Kashmiri people, advocating for a plebiscite under UN supervision.
In addition to the Kashmir issue, Khan commented on the Houthi militia’s attacks on holy sites in Saudi Arabia, affirming Pakistan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia’s sovereignty and security, as outlined in the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. Furthermore, Khan highlighted Pakistan’s position on the Gaza peace process, advocating for the protection of Palestinian civilians and the establishment of a sovereign Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
