Islamabad: Pakistan has firmly rejected India’s assertions concerning the status of Jammu and Kashmir, labeling them as contrary to internationally recognized facts. The country’s stance was articulated in response to recent statements from India’s Ministry of External Affairs regarding the map of the disputed region.

According to Radio Pakistan, Foreign Office Spokesperson Sajjad Haider Khan emphasized that India’s unilateral actions and continued occupation cannot change the internationally recognized disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir. Khan highlighted that the Jammu and Kashmir issue remains one of the longest unresolved disputes on the United Nations Security Council’s agenda. He reiterated that any final resolution must align with the relevant Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people, as determined through a free and impartial plebiscite under UN auspices.

Khan pointed out that the official United Nations maps, which portray Jammu and Kashmir as a disputed territory, are the only valid cartographic representation of its current legal status. He dismissed India’s official maps and unilateral sovereignty claims as having no impact on the disputed territory’s status.

The spokesperson called on the international community to ensure that India ceases human rights violations in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He urged India to honor its commitments towards realizing the right to self-determination for the Kashmiri people, in line with the relevant UNSC resolutions.
