Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari has reiterated Pakistan’s resolve to uphold the rights and traditions of indigenous peoples, emphasizing the nation’s dedication to preserving their cultural heritage. In a statement marking the International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples, President Zardari highlighted the importance of recognizing and valuing the contributions of indigenous communities.

According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari underscored the significance of this observance as a chance to honor the knowledge and practices indigenous peoples have maintained over generations. He noted that Pakistan’s cultural landscape is enriched by diverse communities, including the Kalash and the peoples of the northern mountains, stretching from Gilgit to Gwadar and from the plains to the deserts of Cholistan and Thar.

The President affirmed respect for indigenous peoples’ rights, cultures, and traditions, and expressed support for initiatives to ensure their knowledge is honored, their voices are heard, and their communities receive the opportunities and services necessary to live with dignity and security.
