Islamabad: International Day of World’s Indigenous Peoples is being observed today, with a focus on the role of indigenous midwives in safeguarding life and well-being. This year’s theme, “Honouring Indigenous Midwives: Safeguarding Life and Well-being,” highlights the critical contributions of midwives in indigenous communities around the world.
According to Radio Pakistan, an estimated 476 million Indigenous Peoples live across 90 countries and represent 5,000 different cultures. The observance aims to raise awareness about the unique challenges and contributions of Indigenous Peoples globally, with particular emphasis on the health and well-being roles played by indigenous midwives.
The day serves as an opportunity for international communities to acknowledge and support the vital work of indigenous midwives, who play a crucial role in preserving the health and cultural integrity of their communities.
