Islamabad: Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has lodged a formal protest with India over an incident involving an Indian naval vessel in Pakistan’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) on September 15, 2026. The protest was conveyed to the Charge d’ Affaires of the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, following what Pakistan described as a provocative and unacceptable action by the Indian Navy.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the incident took place during Pakistan Navy’s biennial exercise SEASPARK-26. An Indian vessel allegedly executed aggressive maneuvers dangerously close to a Pakistani naval ship, leading to contact between the two vessels. The Ministry stated that this action was a serious breach of international law and violated the bilateral agreement on Advance Notice on Military Exercises, Manoeuvres and Troop Movements from 1991. The incident is said to have heightened the risk of escalating tensions in an already volatile region.

Pakistan’s government has demanded that India adhere to international law and respect bilateral agreements designed to prevent maritime incidents. The Charge d’ Affaires in Islamabad was tasked with conveying this message to the Indian government. Similarly, Pakistan’s Charge d’ Affaires in New Delhi is expected to deliver a parallel demarche to India’s Ministry of External Affairs.

In a broader appeal, Pakistan has urged the international community to pressure India to abandon what it describes as a belligerent stance and to refrain from actions that could destabilize South Asia. The statement emphasized that the region cannot afford to be held hostage to what Pakistan views as India’s reckless pursuit of conflict.
