Pakistan Prepared for Free and Fair Elections, Says Information Minister

Islamabad, Information and Broadcasting Minister Murtaza Solangi has affirmed that Pakistan is fully prepared to conduct free, fair, and transparent elections this Thursday, underscoring the caretaker government’s commitment to uphold the Election Commission of Pakistan’s schedule.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during a press conference held in Islamabad, Solangi detailed the comprehensive preparations made to ensure a smooth electoral process. He highlighted that sufficient resources have been allocated to facilitate the conduct of free and fair elections. Security measures have been meticulously planned, with the police serving as the primary security force, supplemented by the Civil Armed Forces and the Armed Forces of Pakistan as a quick reaction force to maintain peace and order.

Solangi also emphasized that Pakistan stands as the world’s fifth democracy to consistently hold elections, with over 128 million voters, including more than 50.9 million women, expected to cast their votes for 266 National Assembly seats and representatives for the four provincial assemblies. The elections will be observed by ninety-two international monitors, reflecting the global interest in Pakistan’s democratic process.

Responding to queries, the Information Minister asserted the freedom of the media in Pakistan, the government’s measures to ensure a peaceful election day, and ongoing efforts to combat terrorism. He also touched on economic initiatives undertaken by the caretaker government, including agreements signed through the Special Investment Facilitation Council to attract investment.

The press conference was also attended by spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, Executive Director-General of the External Publicity Wing Ambreen Jan, and representatives from the Interior Ministry and the Election Commission of Pakistan, highlighting the collaborative effort to ensure the elections’ success.
