Pakistan Meteorological Department Reports Varied Rainfall and Temperature Trends Across the Country

Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has released its weekly drought update, detailing the rainfall and temperature patterns observed across Pakistan from June 22nd to June 30th, 2024. The report highlights isolated rainfall in several areas, with Lahore experiencing significant precipitation, while other regions faced below-normal levels.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall was recorded in Lahore at 105 mm, while areas like Malam Jabba and Saidu Shareef also received notable rainfall. However, regions such as Kashmir, central and northern Punjab, and the coastal areas of Balochistan reported below-normal rainfall during the period. In terms of temperatures, most of the country experienced above-normal heat, except for a few stations where temperatures were 1°C to 2°C below normal.

The PMD’s drought update also included detailed figures on spatial distribution of rainfall and temperatures, providing a clearer picture of climatic deviations from normal patterns. With surface soil moisture conditions showing dryer trends in the northern parts of the country, the PMD has forecasted rainfall across most regions from July 1st to 7th, potentially alleviating flash drought conditions in southern and southwestern areas.
