Pakistan is not a guarantor rather a facilitator in Afghan peace process: DG ISPR

Islamabad, July 10, 2021 (PPI-OT): Director General Inter Services Public Relations Major General Babar Iftikhar says Pakistan is not a guarantor rather only a facilitator in the Afghan Peace Process. In an interview, he said Pakistan has no favourites among Afghan stakeholders and the Afghans themselves have to decide their leadership. The DG ISPR said the Pak-Afghan border security and management has been beefed up and the 2611 kilometre stretch of the border has been 90 percent fenced.

He said forts have been built with proper mechanisms and Frontier Corps’ new wings developed to manage the posts. Major General Babar Iftikhar said the spill over effect after civil war in Afghanistan might fall on Pakistan but we have taken measures to cope with the situation. He said Pakistan is committed to never let its soil to be used against anybody.

However, he regretted that no serious efforts were made by the international and Afghan forces to control and contain the terrorist activities against Pakistan. About Indian investment in Afghanistan, the DG ISPR said it was aimed at establishing New Delhi’s influence in that country to damage Pakistan’s interests. However, he said after the prevailing scenario, there is huge frustration on Indian side, as the world has realized that Pakistan did earnest efforts to resolve Afghan issue as per local masses’ aspirations.
