Islamabad: Pakistan is currently the fifth largest host of refugees globally, providing safety to approximately 1.52 million registered refugees and asylum seekers. The refugees have been forced to flee their home countries due to various reasons and have found refuge in Pakistan.
According to a statement by UN Refugee Agency, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) supports the Pakistani government in its efforts to provide protection and assistance to these refugees. The agency is also working towards strengthening social cohesion in communities that host these groups.
The strategic direction for refugee programming in Pakistan is guided by the Solution Strategy for the Afghan Refugees (SSAR), which emphasizes global solidarity in addressing the challenges faced by refugees. The initiative underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in ensuring the safety and well-being of displaced individuals.
Pakistan’s role as a major host country highlights its commitment to providing refuge to those in need while navigating the complexities associated with such large-scale humanitarian efforts.
