Islamabad: Pakistan has expressed deep concern over the hunger strike and declining health of Kashmiri Hurriyat leader and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, who is currently imprisoned in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail in what Pakistan claims are false cases.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Foreign Office Spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch addressed the issue during her weekly press briefing in Islamabad. She emphasized that Malik’s health is deteriorating and urged for him to be granted immediate medical facilities. Pakistan is also demanding Malik’s immediate release.
The spokesperson highlighted Pakistan’s call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, condemning what she termed as Israeli aggression. She called for the United Nations to intervene and investigate potential war crimes in Gaza. Baloch also welcomed a report from the United Nations on the humanitarian situation in Gaza, noting the challenges faced by Palestinians in accessing urgent medical assistance due to ongoing conflicts.
In response to a question, Baloch mentioned that the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan have extended their congratulations to the newly elected US President, Donald Trump. It was noted that Yasin Malik has been on a hunger strike for the past seven days in Tihar Jail, protesting against the non-provision of medical facilities.
