New York: Pakistan has expressed its concern over the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and called for renewed efforts toward a negotiated settlement. Speaking at the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Counsellor Muhammad Kamran Taj underscored the importance of dialogue as the only viable path to achieving a just and lasting peace between the conflicting parties.
According to Radio Pakistan, Taj highlighted the adverse effects of continued hostilities, which exacerbate the suffering of affected populations, erode trust, and complicate peace efforts. He emphasized the necessity of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure, labeling it a fundamental obligation under international humanitarian law.
Taj conveyed the hope that the current pause in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine would be temporary, advocating for a resumption of talks at the earliest possible opportunity. He affirmed Pakistan’s readiness to support all initiatives aimed at resolving the conflict in a peaceful, comprehensive, and durable manner.
