Islamabad: Pakistan has actively engaged in a series of diplomatic efforts over the past week to strengthen its foreign policy objectives and enhance ties with key partners. These engagements included high-level visits, telephone conversations with international counterparts, and participation in multilateral forums, as revealed in a recent press briefing by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to Kyrgyzstan on September 2, 2026, resulted in the signing of seventeen bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs). These agreements aim to enhance economic and strategic cooperation between Pakistan and Kyrgyzstan, covering sectors such as energy, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, tourism, and the digital economy. Both nations reiterated their commitment to the CASA-1000 project and emphasized the importance of joint projects to foster connectivity and trade.
In addition to the Prime Minister’s visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar engaged in a series of telephone conversations with foreign ministers and other international leaders. He communicated with the newly elected Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the organization and its stance on issues like Palestine and Jammu & Kashmir. Discussions with foreign ministers of Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Egypt, Norway, Kuwait, and others focused on bilateral relations, regional developments, and strategic political and defense matters.
Pakistan also condemned recent Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia, expressing solidarity with the Kingdom and reaffirming its support for regional stability. Furthermore, in collaboration with other Muslim-majority countries, Pakistan strongly opposed Israeli propositions advocating the displacement of Palestinians from Gaza.
On the humanitarian front, Pakistan dispatched 100 tons of aid to Nepal to assist with relief efforts following devastating floods and landslides. Additionally, Pakistan announced plans to host the 14th South Asian Games in April 2027, an event expected to draw over 6,000 athletes and officials from across South Asia.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of multilateralism and international cooperation, referencing Pakistan’s support for the Global Governance Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping. The initiative aims to promote justice, equity, and inclusion in international relations.
Pakistan remains committed to addressing regional challenges, including the Kashmir dispute, and continues to urge the international community to recognize and act on violations of human rights and fundamental freedoms in the region.
