Islamabad: Pakistan Customs has intensified its anti-smuggling operations through the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Hyderabad by employing the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Tracking App to closely monitor the movement of petroleum, oil, and lubricants (POL) products. This initiative aims to detect any suspicious activities, verify transportation records, and identify discrepancies in documentation accompanying POL consignments.
According to Press Information Department, in three separate operations, the Anti-Smuggling Units of the Collectorate detained three oil tankers carrying approximately 20,000 litres of petrol and High-Speed Diesel (HSD). The tankers were detained due to unavailable tracking records on the OGRA portal, unexpected transit delays, broken or tampered seals, and inconsistencies between listed consignees on delivery invoices and the actual offloading locations. The estimated value of these cases is Rs. 40 million.
These actions underscore the role of digital monitoring in identifying irregularities and strengthening enforcement through intelligence-led operations. Pakistan Customs is actively using the OGRA Tracking App to enhance field surveillance, identify suspicious transportation patterns, and curb illicit petroleum product movements.
The detained vehicles and consignments are subject to verification and further legal proceedings as per the law. Pakistan Customs reaffirmed its commitment to combating smuggling, safeguarding legitimate supply chains, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
