Pakistan Calls for Enhanced UN-AU Political Coordination

NEW YORK: Pakistan has called for enhanced political coordination between the United Nations and the African Union, emphasizing the importance of maintaining African ownership in addressing the continent’s peace and security challenges. Usman Jadoon, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, highlighted this need during a Security Council briefing focused on UN cooperation with regional and subregional organizations, specifically the African Union.

According to Radio Pakistan, Jadoon noted that while the UN-AU partnership has established a strong institutional foundation, it must now prioritize political coherence and deliver tangible outcomes. He advocated for the partnership to encompass the full spectrum of peace efforts, including prevention, mediation, peace operations, peacebuilding, and counter-terrorism.
