Islamabad: The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, along with the Services Chiefs and the Armed Forces of Pakistan, paid tribute to Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, on his 53rd martyrdom anniversary. The commemoration highlighted Major Akram’s contributions during the conflict in East Pakistan and his ultimate sacrifice in 1971.
According to Inter Services Public Relations, Major Muhammad Akram Shaheed was leading a company of the 4 Frontier Force Regiment at Hilli, East Pakistan, on May 19, 1971. He is remembered for his defense of the area, preventing enemy advancement. On December 3, 1971, he was tasked with attacking enemy positions, during which he destroyed three enemy tanks. Major Akram was seriously injured in combat and embraced martyrdom on December 5, 1971.
The anniversary of Major Akram’s martyrdom serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made by Pakistan’s Armed Forces in defending the nation. His legacy is celebrated as a source of national pride, honoring the courage and dedication of those who have laid down their lives for the country.
