London: Pakistan and the United Kingdom have agreed to implement a structured dialogue mechanism aimed at enhancing bilateral relations, following a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar and British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband in London. The talks, held during Dar’s official visit to the United Kingdom, focused on reviewing the broad scope of connections between the two countries and setting up a formal framework for future discussions.

According to Radio Pakistan, the newly established mechanism will facilitate regular discussions between the foreign ministries of both nations, addressing various areas of cooperation and assessing progress in key sectors. The meeting also involved an exchange of perspectives on significant regional and international matters, including the current situation in the Middle East. Dar shared insights into Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation endeavors in the region, which were acknowledged by Miliband, who commended Pakistan’s efforts in fostering dialogue and stability.

In addition, discussions touched on the Indus Waters Treaty and regional security, with Dar highlighting India’s repeated treaty violations and stressing the necessity of adhering to international law. Concerns were also raised about terrorist threats originating from Afghanistan and activities against Pakistan by groups based there. Both parties emphasized the need for ongoing engagement to promote peace and collaboration within the region and beyond. The dialogue also acknowledged the vital contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in strengthening the ties and people-to-people connections between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.
