Islamabad: Pakistan and Türkiye have taken significant steps to enhance their strategic partnership in the railway sector, focusing on regional connectivity, modernization, and investment opportunities. Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, during his official visit to Türkiye, held crucial discussions with the Turkish Contractors Association (TCA) to explore potential collaborations in the modernization of Pakistan Railways and infrastructure development.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting highlighted the involvement of Turkish companies in Pakistan Railways’ forthcoming and current projects. The discussions delved into various investment models, such as Public-Private Partnerships, Build-Operate-Transfer, and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction frameworks, aimed at supporting Pakistan’s ambitious railway transformation plans.
Minister Abbasi extended invitations to Turkish contractors to engage in Pakistan Railways’ substantial infrastructure initiatives. The conversation also covered the potential contribution of Turkish expertise in projects like the Main Line-1 and Main Line-3 modernizations and the revival of the Islamabad-Tehran-Istanbul Freight Corridor. The revival of this corridor is expected to boost regional trade and connectivity among Pakistan, Iran, and Türkiye.
The talks further explored Turkish participation in the Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan Railway Corridor and investment in Pakistan Railways’ stations and logistics developments. Cooperation in technology transfer and local manufacturing of railway components were also discussed, with an emphasis on strengthening Pakistan Railways’ capabilities.
Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to expanding cooperation beyond infrastructure, focusing on investment, joint ventures, technology transfer, and professional training. The meeting concluded with confidence that enhanced collaboration will fortify the strategic partnership between the two nations, fostering sustainable railway development and regional economic integration.
