Rawalpindi: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, emphasized the importance of good governance for Pakistan’s stability and security during a news conference on Friday. He underscored the state’s commitment to direct engagement with the people of Balochistan to ensure sustainable development in the province, moving away from appeasing traditional power structures.

According to Radio Pakistan, Lieutenant General Chaudhry detailed the security forces’ efforts in combating terrorism, with thousands of operations conducted in collaboration with Balochistan Police. He highlighted the influence of over three hundred Indian websites alleged to be fostering terrorism in Balochistan. The operations have also targeted illegal economic activities, seizing smuggled goods and narcotics worth billions.

Lieutenant General Chaudhry outlined ongoing development projects in Balochistan, including infrastructure initiatives like Mangi Dam and Kachhi Canal. Investments are being made in education, healthcare, and agriculture, as part of broader socio-economic development efforts with a focus on projects such as the Balochistan Green Initiative.

He noted the establishment of FC West to protect the mineral corridor and improvements to the Balochistan Police’s capabilities. The conference also addressed the high number of intelligence-based operations and terrorist incidents in the province, reiterating that there will be no negotiation with terrorists outside the legal framework.

On governance, he called for strengthening administrative structures in line with constitutional processes and political leadership’s decisions, while also touching on the unresolved status of Kashmir and the need for lawful resolution of issues.
