Pakistan and Saudi Arabia Discuss Expanding Bilateral Ties and Addressing Global Challenges


Islamabad: Chairman of the Senate, Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, engaged in comprehensive talks with a delegation from Saudi Arabia, led by the Imam of Masjid Nabawi, Sheikh Dr. Salah Muhammad Al-Bdeer, focusing on enhancing cooperation across defense, trade, and economic sectors. The meeting, held at the Parliament House, underscored the deep-rooted bilateral ties between the two nations, founded on shared religious, cultural values, and mutual strategic interests.



According to Senate of Pakistan, the discussions highlighted the significant potential for expanding the existing relationship, particularly in light of the historical connections and the profound respect for Masjid Al-Nabawi among Pakistani Muslims. Chairman Gilani emphasized the mosque’s symbolism of unity, peace, and devotion, reflecting the broader relationship between the two countries.



The visit of Sheikh Dr. Salah Muhammad Al-Bdeer was marked as a significant gesture of the enduring brotherly relations, reinforced under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, which has seen the bilateral friendship flourish. Chairman Gilani also addressed concerns over Islamophobia, advocating for a unified strategy within the Muslim world to promote Islam’s message of peace and to counteract global misconceptions.



The meeting also covered pressing international issues like the situations in Kashmir and Palestine, with calls for peaceful resolutions in line with the aspirations of the people and relevant United Nations resolutions. The role of the Pakistani diaspora in Saudi Arabia, numbering around 2.5 million, was recognized as pivotal to the development of both nations, with gratitude expressed for Saudi Arabia’s support during challenging times.



Moreover, the discussions reiterated the importance of parliamentary friendship groups in fostering people-to-people contacts and enhancing mutual cooperation across diverse sectors. The presence of prominent Pakistani senators during the meeting highlighted the collective commitment to strengthening these bilateral ties.



The leader of the Saudi delegation expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s hospitality and aligned with the views on unity and peace, emphasizing the need for education and tolerance among the younger generations to ensure a stable future. He concluded with prayers for Pakistan’s prosperity, reflecting a shared vision for continued collaboration and mutual support.
