Islamabad: Pakistan and the Maldives have agreed to enhance their cooperation in various fields, including parliamentary diplomacy, trade, and education, after a meeting between their respective parliamentary leaders. Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, welcomed the Maldivian delegation led by Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla at the National Assembly in Islamabad.

According to Press Information Department, the meeting included discussions with the Parliamentary Caucus on Child Rights (PCCR), chaired by Barrister Danyal Chaudhry. The origin of the PCCR was highlighted during the meeting, stemming from a child’s query about legislative representation for those under 18. Both sides expressed a commitment to strengthening ties in tourism, agriculture, health, IT, and other sectors. The Maldives delegation emphasized the importance of cooperation in renewable energy, agriculture, and education, while highlighting tourism and fisheries as priority areas.

The meeting also saw participation from members of the Pakistan-Maldives Parliamentary Friendship Group, who called for enhanced collaboration in trade and digital sectors. The Maldives delegation appreciated Pakistan’s support and reiterated its dedication to fostering strong bilateral relationships.
