Islamabad: Pakistan and Iran have concluded the 10th Session of the Pakistan-Iran Joint Trade Committee with a renewed commitment to enhance economic cooperation and achieve an annual trade target of $10 billion.

According to Press Information Department, the session was co-chaired by Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Iran’s Minister of Industry, Mines and Trade, Dr. Mohammad Atabak. The two ministers signed the Agreed Minutes, outlining the understandings reached during the two-day discussions.

Both countries showed progress on the proposed Pakistan-Iran Free Trade Agreement, focusing on Rules of Origin, tariff-reduction modalities, and product lists. Discussions also covered expanding barter trade, strengthening business-to-business connections, promoting industrial cooperation and investment, increasing private-sector involvement, and activating joint border markets.

The agreement included measures to improve trade facilitation, customs coordination, transport, logistics, and border infrastructure to ensure the efficient movement of commercial cargo, especially perishable goods.

Jam Kamal Khan stated that the agreed measures would transform the historic relations between Pakistan and Iran into stronger economic cooperation. Dr. Mohammad Atabak expressed Iran’s commitment to removing trade barriers and expanding economic and commercial relations with Pakistan.

Both ministers emphasized the need for sustained coordination and timely implementation of the decisions before the next Joint Trade Committee meeting. The session concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and a reaffirmation of the longstanding friendship between the two nations.
