Pakistan and Iran Commit to Strengthening Bilateral Relations


Islamabad: Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral ties and promoting regional peace, following a high-level meeting between President Asif Ali Zardari and Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian in Islamabad.



According to Radio Pakistan, President Zardari extended his congratulations to Dr. Pezeshkian on the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. He expressed optimism that the ongoing technical-level negotiations would lead to enduring peace in the region. Zardari reiterated Pakistan’s support for Iran’s peace, stability, national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, emphasizing Pakistan’s opposition to unilateral initiatives and preference for dialogue and diplomacy to address regional and global challenges.



Dr. Pezeshkian expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s constructive efforts in fostering peace and dialogue, praising the support provided by Pakistan during recent challenging times. He emphasized the importance Iran places on its relationship with Pakistan and expressed a desire to further expand cooperation in political, economic, security, and regional matters.



The discussions between the two leaders encompassed bilateral relations, with a focus on regional peace and security, connectivity, economic cooperation, and other topics of mutual interest.
