LONDON: The Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, engaged in discussions with Mr. Arsenio Dominguez, the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), during a meeting in London. The meeting focused on enhancing Pakistan’s maritime governance and cooperation with the IMO.
According to High Commission For Pakistan – United Kingdom, Senator Dar reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to the IMO, recognizing its pivotal role in regulating international shipping. He expressed gratitude to the Secretary-General for his support in efforts to secure the release of 10 Pakistani seafarers held captive aboard MT Honour 25, urging for swift institutional intervention to ensure their safe return.
The discussions also emphasized Pakistan’s endeavors to strengthen maritime governance and adhere to international maritime standards. Furthermore, both parties explored avenues to bolster cooperation in maritime safety, security, regulatory reforms, and the development of Pakistan’s maritime sector.
