Islamabad: Pakistan and Bahrain have reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation across a wide range of sectors, following discussions at the third session of the Pakistan-Bahrain Joint Ministerial Commission. The session, co-chaired by Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, concluded with the signing of a protocol to expand collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
According to Radio Pakistan, the joint session resulted in the establishment of several joint working groups aimed at ensuring continuous engagement and effective implementation of the Joint Ministerial Commission’s decisions. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar highlighted the agreement between the two countries to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment promotion, industrial collaboration, agriculture, skills development, higher education, information technology, logistics, and maritime affairs. Both sides also emphasized the importance of fostering closer ties between their business communities.
The discussions also focused on labor mobility, vocational training, and human resource development, aiming to create new opportunities for skilled Pakistani professionals and workers. The evolving situation in the Gulf was addressed, with an emphasis on restraint, de-escalation, and diplomacy. Both sides discussed ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation through strategic waterways like the Strait of Hormuz and the Bab-ul-Mandab, vital for regional and global food and energy security.
On regional issues, Deputy Prime Minister Dar reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to playing a constructive role in peace and stability efforts. He highlighted concerns about developments in South Asia, including Afghanistan and the Indus Waters Treaty, criticizing India’s unilateral actions as a breach of international law.
Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Dr. Al Zayani announced the establishment of a Joint Working Group on Trade and Investment and the upcoming convening of a group on Energy. He emphasized the strategic nature of Pakistan-Bahrain relations, expressing determination to build on the session’s outcomes for mutual peace, stability, and prosperity. The minister also highlighted the goal to double bilateral trade in the coming three years.
