Vienna: Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Chairman Senate of Pakistan, engaged in a bilateral meeting with Ms. Andrea Eder-Gitschthaler, President of the Federal Council of Austria. The meeting highlighted the commitment of both countries to enhance parliamentary relations, cooperation in crucial sectors, and overall bilateral ties.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, Chairman Senate extended greetings on behalf of Pakistan’s Parliament and populace, stressing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering mutual understanding. Both leaders recognized progress in Pakistan-Austria relations and explored expanding inter-parliamentary collaboration through the Pakistan-Austria Parliamentary Friendship Group.
Chairman Senate expressed appreciation for Austria’s support in establishing Pakistan’s Parliamentary Budget Office and advocated for continued technical assistance. The discussion included Austria’s contributions to higher education, notably through the Pakistan Austria Fachhochschule-Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology (PAF-IAST) in Haripur, and explored further academic collaborations.
The meeting also addressed Austria’s expertise in renewable energy and industrial development, aiming to strengthen economic and trade partnerships. Chairman Senate highlighted Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable development, urging joint efforts in addressing global challenges like climate change and technical education.
The Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) was noted as a crucial initiative for promoting investment and economic collaboration. Chairman Senate reaffirmed Pakistan’s dedication to inclusive regional development and welcomed Austria’s cooperation.
Cultural and historical ties between the nations were also discussed, with references to notable Austrian-born figures who contributed to Pakistan’s history. The Chairman extended an invitation to Ms. Andrea Eder-Gitschthaler to visit Pakistan, reinforcing the desire to enhance parliamentary cooperation.
