Islamabad: Pakistan remains committed to fostering peace and stability within the region and is actively pursuing diplomatic solutions to ongoing conflicts, according to Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). In a recent interview, he emphasized the nation’s role as a neutral mediator between Iran and the United States, leveraging its longstanding relationships with both countries to facilitate dialogue and prevent further escalation.

According to Radio Pakistan, Lieutenant General Chaudhry highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing outreach efforts by both political and military leaders to prevent the worsening of regional tensions. He asserted that Pakistan does not possess any vested interests in the Iran-related dispute, with its primary goal being the containment of potential conflicts.

The discussions also touched upon Pakistan’s independent relations with major global powers such as the United States, Iran, and China, which are based on mutual benefit. The Lieutenant General underscored Islamabad’s intention to enhance areas of mutual interest while effectively managing differences.

Lieutenant General Chaudhry further elaborated on a recently formalized defence agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye, characterizing it as a strategic partnership focused on collective deterrence without any offensive intent. The agreement is intended to complement existing international alliances and strengthen regional security frameworks. He also noted the potential for including new partners who share similar visions of peace and stability.

Addressing the sensitive issue of Pakistan-India relations, Lieutenant General Chaudhry dismissed the notion of military conflict between the two nuclear-armed neighbors, advocating instead for dialogue based on equality and mutual respect.

Regarding Afghanistan, he expressed concerns over terrorist activities emanating from across the border, indicating that Pakistan reserves the right to self-defense under international law. The nation remains steadfast in its two-decade-long counter-terrorism efforts to safeguard its citizens’ security and wellbeing.
