ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is dedicated to achieving a negotiated and peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict between Iran and the United States, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, the Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), stated in a recent interview with CNN. According to Radio Pakistan, General Chaudhry emphasized Pakistan’s role as an honest broker in the region and reiterated the nation’s commitment to narrowing differences and achieving a peaceful outcome to the conflict.
In his discussion, General Chaudhry underscored the importance of preventing the conflict from expanding either horizontally or vertically. He highlighted Pakistan’s vested interest in maintaining regional peace and stability, pointing out that the country has consistently worked towards this goal.
Addressing Pakistan’s long-standing military presence in Saudi Arabia, General Chaudhry noted that the forces have been stationed there for decades, contributing to various capabilities and domains. He further explained that the Makkah Alliance, comprising Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkiye, is rooted in sustained diplomatic, political, military, and people-to-people relationships. He clarified that the Makkah Accord and its implementation are purely defensive in nature.
General Chaudhry stressed that the alliance’s objective is not to delineate enemies and friends but rather to ensure the defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the sacred Harmain Sharifian sites. He highlighted the collective military and diplomatic capabilities of the three countries involved in the alliance, emphasizing their defensive goals.
