Over 17,000 Religious Seminaries Registered Under Directorate General Religious Education, Senate Hears

Islamabad: The Senate was briefed today that a total of 17,738 religious seminaries across Pakistan are now officially registered with the Directorate General Religious Education (DGRE), as part of efforts to standardize religious schooling and integrate contemporary education elements.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Minister for Education and Professional Training Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui provided a written response detailing the DGRE’s role as the sole federal body responsible for the registration of religious madaris. He reported that the Directorate has also facilitated the deployment of 1,196 teachers across 598 madaris and has distributed textbooks to over 150,000 students to enhance their educational framework.

Additionally, the Senate Chair announced the upcoming visit of a Russian parliamentary delegation led by the Speaker of the Federation Council, Ms. Valentina, highlighting her scheduled address to the Senate in a special sitting on Monday. The session will mark a significant diplomatic engagement, with the Senate adjourning until Monday afternoon in anticipation of further discussions.
