Jammu, Tribal nomads from the Dhar Bani area of Kathua district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have approached the High Court to contest an order demanding their departure from a designated grazing land.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the contested order, issued on October 3, involved the transfer of 450 kanals of state land to the Horticulture Department for establishing a high-density plant nursery. This transfer has sparked legal action from the affected nomadic communities.
In the recent court proceedings, the counsel representing the petitioners argued that the disputed land was part of the Bani Wildlife Sanctuary, as per an order by the Forest Department dated December 10, 2019. The legal challenge raises questions about land rights and the impact of government policies on traditional nomadic lifestyles.
The High Court has scheduled the next hearing for December 11 to further deliberate on this matter.
